One-Year Contract, Marine Environmental Law
Vancouver-based West Coast Environmental Law is seeking a contract lawyer who is passionate about using his or her legal skills to achieve environmental sustainability and social justice. The successful candidate will work on marine protection law. This is an immediate opening for a one-year contract staff counsel position.
You are a thoughtful strategist with strong legal research and analysis skills, who enjoys community outreach and coalition work. You are a dynamic communicator, able to thrive in highly charged situations and adapt to changing conditions to get the job done.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing legal support to conservation groups and First Nations working to protect marine space and assisting governments to reach marine protection targets.
- Developing and advancing legal solutions related to marine protection, based on comprehensive research and analysis.
- Developing and delivering public legal education events and resources.
- External collaboration with coalitions and diverse allies to achieve common objectives; internal collaboration with legal and non-legal staff on organizational projects and objectives.
Candidates must be members of the Law Society of British Columbia. Scientific expertise is an asset. Experience in marine protection is also an asset. 3-4 year call preferred with relevant experience in environmental law.
